Purpose / Mission

Providing business owners with unbiased, independent advice to make informed decisions, and an integrated and robust marketing strategy to make their marketing work for them.

Most of Lauren’s career was spent in mass media, particularly advertising and radio.

That meant working directly with businesses and media agencies, helping them decide how to invest their marketing budgets.

This provided a front-row seat to thousands of marketing decisions and lessons.

Over time, her interest increasingly shifted towards the bigger picture.

Curiosity: What Works?

Why do people choose one business over another?

Why does one message work while another disappears completely?

Why do some businesses communicate brilliantly while others make something simple unnecessarily complicated?

And perhaps most importantly: How do you work out what is actually worth doing?

That curiosity eventually expanded into websites, digital marketing, analytics, branding and the broader marketing ecosystem.

The learning has continued ever since. And probably always will.

Media shifted.

Offline media, like newspapers, TV, billboards and radio, was traditionally reserved for “big business”. Only accessible to those who could afford to spend thousands on advertising or outsource their marketing- sometimes without ever really understanding what was being done or why.

But as media evolved the years, advertising became more accessible for small business owners.

Digital media opened the door for small businesses, but they don’t always have the budget to rely on expensive agencies with trendy tactics and big promises.

The Ad Coach ethos is to teach you how marketing works along the way. Leaving you wiser and empowered.

So you can make confident decisions, invest your money wisely and build a business that doesn’t rely on guesswork.

Coaching has been a significant part of Lauren’s career. She has coached through sport, managed and developed sales teams, trained new employees and worked in leadership roles where a large part of the job involved helping people understand something they didn’t understand before.

That approach carries directly into Ad Coach. The aim isn’t to bombard clients with terminology and expect them to trust the expert. It’s to explain things properly.

It’s about understanding.
Not jargon.

Business owners don’t need to become marketers. But they should understand enough to feel comfortable making decisions about their own business.

Small on purpose.

Ad Coach isn’t designed to become a giant agency.

The client base is kept manageable so Lauren can genuinely understand the businesses she works with.

That limits how much work Ad Coach can take on, and that’s how we prefer it.

Nothing lost in translation.

When someone works with Ad Coach, they work directly with Lauren.

Nothing outsourced.

There aren’t layers of account managers, junior staff and outsourced suppliers where your message gets lost in translation.

The person who asks the questions, also provides the advice and does the work.

Choosy by design.

Ad Coach is particularly drawn to businesses trying to make something better: improving someone’s health, resolving conflict, building something useful, supporting a community, providing a great local service or simply running an honest business that treats people well.

These are the businesses Ad Coach wants to help.

Traditional marketing knowledge advantage

Lauren’s career began before digital became the centre of almost everything. While many modern marketers built their careers entirely within the digital world.

Lauren’s marketing knowledge was developed through the foundations of traditional mass media, where understanding audiences, frequency, messaging, trust and brand recognition mattered enormously.

Those fundamentals haven’t disappeared.

The channels have changed. Human beings haven’t.

Combining traditional marketing principles with modern digital tools gives Ad Coach a broader perspective on how the different pieces fit together.

Experience matters

So does knowing what you don’t know. Any person who pretends to know absolutely everything about marketing is lying. Nobody does.

Digital marketing changes constantly. Platforms change. Algorithms change. Technology changes. AI changes what’s possible almost every week.

What Lauren brings is something much more useful than big promises.

23 years of experience means: knowing how to anticipate and investigate a problem, ask the right questions from the beginning, understanding the commercial context and work out what really matters.

The experience to anticipate future shifts, sound judgement and the ability to learn quickly.

When something sits outside her current knowledge – she’ll say so. Then go learn it in her own time to give you the best outcome.

Backed by qualifications

Alongside more than two decades of practical marketing experience, Lauren holds a Master of Business Administration, specialising in Human Resources Management.

Completing her MBA reinforced the background she had already established through years of working with businesses and teams.

Business is ultimately about people.

Customers are people. Employees are people. Business owners are people.

Good marketing starts with understanding what matters to people.

What to expect:

✓ Questions! Getting the brief right the first time saves time and money fixing mistakes later.

✓ Honest opinions will be shared, with the reasoning explained.

✓ Ideas may be challenged when there appears to be a better option.

✓ Transparency when something probably isn’t worth spending money on.

✓ Humility to accept your feedback with appreciation, and ensure you like the end result.

✓ There will probably be a joke somewhere along the way.

✓ You have the final say – you should be proud of your business and want people to see your marketing.

The role of Ad Coach is to provide the information, perspective and practical support you need to make confident decisions – not to take away your control.

Sometimes Ad Coach will do the work. Sometimes Lauren will teach clients how to do it themselves. Often it will be a combination of both.

The Ad Coach goal is to get your marketing working, while making sure you understands enough to stay in control of it.

Side by side.

You’re always in control.

This is your journey, so you hold the reigns.

But don’t waste hours learning a skill you will only need once – let Ad Coach take care of the tricky stuff, and provide expert advice on the parts worth knowing.

Think we’re a good fit?

Got a business you’re proud of? (Or building one!)
